I would like to open a daycare center(not out of my home) and was going to take schooling through Penn Foster for child day care management, will i also need to get and associates in early childhood education? or any other certifications?
MSDMNO gave you a website…I’ve not checked it out…but I’m assuming its for center regulations as well. I know that the individual misunderstood. I recommend you also get your information from the licensing regulations via your State’s website. It will let you know what you would be required to have as a director. Good luck!
Do I need to take early childhood education classes to open a daycare?

I don’t know what state your in, but in Florida you need only 2 courses to be certified. Check with your state licensing department, they should be able to clarify this for you. I don’t think that you need to obtain an associates degree. Best of luck to you!

It depends on the state. In NY you could own the Center but would have to hire a qualified Director. Check your state’s licensing requirements. However, even if you are not the Director how would you know if you are providing a developmentally appropriate and high quality program if you did not have an Early Childhood background?

Check with your state licensing office. Everyone puts so much emphasis these days on CDA’s, etc. If only they read the qualifications to open one, in my state that would be to be 18, a high school diploma and an area approved by fire and health. All these extra classes are very helpful and you must obtain training in order to maintain your license, but I believe any person who works with young children need a child development course to learn what is natural and expected at every level of the child’s life. Children do things that are natural that would freak some people out if they did not know that was a natural level of progression in speech, gross motor or fine motor acquisition.
